For every wedding, there are hundreds - if not thousands - of little tasks that need to be ticked off before the big day. Amongst these items, there are 10 major ones that will likely take up the most time, but are the most important!
Keep this to-do’s in mind when planning your wedding.
1. Find a venue
One of your very first tasks will be to find a venue for your big day. It’s important to do this first as the venue may only have certain days available which will therefore dictate the date of your wedding. And of course, you can’t start booking many other details without a date!
The venue may also influence your guest list, as a smaller space may mean you’ll have to keep your guest list shorter, while a larger space may allow you to invite a few more.
2. Decide on a guest list
A guest list should be high on your to-do list, as this will help you figure out how much food and drink you need. Plus, getting your invites out early will help ensure as many people can make it as possible.
Don’t forget that you’ll need a wedding party to celebrate with you as part of your list!
3. Organise food and drink
Chicken or beef? Buffet or sit-down meal? Wedding cake or sweet station? There are a number of food and drink decisions you’ll need to make for the day, and you can easily spend a lot of time thinking about it. Find out if your venue offers food and drink as part of the service, or talk to a caterer about menu options that will work best for you.
4. Plan a honeymoon
Many couples already know exactly where they want to honeymoon before they even get engaged, while others will struggle to pick a favourite spot! Start planning the honeymoon early, as booking flights and accommodation tend to be more affordable the further away they are in the future. Aim to leave a week or so between the wedding and the day you leave to give yourselves a breather before jetting away.
5. Shop for your outfits
Wedding dresses and suits are arguably the most important and meaningful outfits you’ll ever wear, so start shopping early! Remember that a dressmaker can make remarkable alterations such as length, fit and even adding or removing straps, so if you find something that’s not quite right (but almost), you might be able to alter it just enough to make it perfect!
6. Book a photographer
In 50 years, you’ll look back and laugh at the fashions that will have undoubtedly gone out of style, remember faces and names from your past, and most of all smile at the beautiful wedding day you enjoyed together. Your photographer will be the one to capture it all, so be sure to find one whose photographic style you like and who you get along with for an easy and enjoyable day together.
7. Choose your entertainment
Band, DJ, or carefully selected iPod playlist? All of them will take time to organise, so get started early and find one that will have everyone up on their feet dancing at the end of the night!
8. Hire an officiant
An officiant doesn’t just make sure you follow all the steps to become married on the day, he or she also ensures you complete all the necessary paperwork to make it legal. At least a month prior to the wedding, you must supply your celebrant with a completed ‘notice of intended marriage form’, but they can talk you through it to keep it simple!
9. Talk to your florist
Flowers will no doubt play a big role on the day, from the bouquets to table decorations and boutonnieres for the gents. Your florist will know what will be in season during your wedding, and you can work together to find flowers that match your wedding colours and look wonderful to boot.
10. Find the perfect wedding rings
And of course, finding the perfect wedding rings should be high on your list. After all, once the day has passed it will all be held together with two rings, one for each of you, that will be worn forever as a lasting symbol of your love and commitment. For this, simply stop in at your local Hennings Jewellers to see what’s in store for him, and what’s available for her. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, you can always have rings custom-made just for you!
