Weddings are many things: They are a time for two people in love to commit to each other for life, a time for friends and family to get together to witness that commitment, a time for laughter, and of course, a time for dancing.
Traditionally, the most incredible dance you will see at a wedding will be when the bride and her groom take a turn on the dance floor as newlyweds for the very first time – or perhaps the father-daughter dance after that.
Proving that even tradition can be improved upon, some couples and bridal parties have set out to bring even more flair to a wedding through the magic that is choreographed wedding dances.
Here are just four of our favourites guaranteed to make you smile (and perhaps to help you start planning one of your own).
‘You’d better move, you’d better dance. Let’s make a night, you (will) remember, I’ll be the one, you won’t forget, we’re goin’ down’… the aisle.
Who knew Kesha’s ‘Timber’ would be so wedding appropriate? Just add an entire wedding party in gorgeous peach dresses and sauve black and white suits, teach them all the moves to this catchy tune (and have them actually remember them perfectly, too), and press play.
This is one of the most polished and perfected wedding dances out there, and will make you want your own before the first minute is up!
The entire first minute of this glorious wedding dance is exactly as you’d expect – a young couple, very much in love, blissfully staring into one another’s eyes as they slowly dance in place.
Then the beat drops, they do the robot, dance the steps to Michael Jackson’s Thriller, do an impressive Carlton (Fresh Prince of Bel Air fans will love this), cover Footloose and mime out the words to What is Love? Then, slightly out of breath, they return to their slow dance to Unchained Melody.
It’s hard to tell who is having the most fun – the bride, the groom, or the audience!
During her speech, the maid of honour says, “these girls would do anything for you” – and she’s not kidding.
All six of them get up and take to the dance floor for an epic choreographed dance to the final song from the hit movie Pitch Perfect. It’s six minutes of well-timed, enthusiastic lip syncing that will make you wish these girls were your bridesmaids and leave no questions about why the bride chose them.
I got sunshine
You will love this father-daughter dance from the second he steps onto the dance floor and does a couple of quick stretches to warm up.
Throwing tradition out the window for something far more light-hearted and fun, the bride and her disco dad spend the next few minutes dancing in time to some of the biggest tracks of the last few decades. They do manage a little more of the usual moves you would find for such a dance at about the three-minute mark, but mostly you will spend this video wishing you grew up in this funky household.
