Having a flower girl walk down the aisle in front of you is a truly magical moment. It’s the time and place where you honour any young girls in your life on your wedding day- and it’s also one that she will remember forever.
Choosing a flower girl dress is extremely fun, but there are a few things that will help you find just the right one!
Something with space to grow
Flower girls can be just a few years old or in their early teens. Either way, it’s important to remember that she may grow between the time you try on a dress and the actual wedding day.
Look for straps that can be let out for a small extension in case she gets a little taller, and for a stretchy or adjustable waist in case she fills out a little by the wedding day. Also, book in a fitting session before the wedding to make any necessary last-minute adjustments.
Something similar to your bridesmaids’ dresses
Your flower girl is something of a mini-bridesmaid, so it makes sense to look for similar style elements in the dresses chosen.
Whether it’s a similar colour, cut, or design- it’s a nice way to pull the looks together without having the exact same gown. It will look great in the final photos and it will make your flower girl feel like she’s really part of the experience.
Something she can move in
Kids always seem to have energy to burn, and if your flower girl is under the age of 10, it’s likely she will want to do plenty of dancing and jumping around after the ceremony.
Make sure she’s comfortable and free to do this by dressing her in something she can move in more easily. Knee-length is easier to walk in than longer dresses, and a flowery fabric will move better than a more rigid one on the dance floor.
